Oradell native was appointed to state council and upgrades to River Edge borough hall are still in the works

Over the years,  and  have survived most of the Revolutionary War, the rising of the Hackensack River, and new development in surrounding towns River EdgeTeaneck and New Milford. On Wednesday, the historic landmark in Bergen County may have seen the sowing of seeds towards its preservation as the state Department of Environmental Protection representatives and government officials vowed to begin working together and resolving their past issues. The meeting was called by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg who cited  in Paramus as the impetus for all parties to being working as one.

A River Edge resident was arrested Tuesday in Leonia after allegedly groping a woman and stealing her cell phone while on a Port Authority bus. Alexander Kim was charged with sexual contact and theft after a Leonia resident reported that he groped her and stole her cell phone on a Red and Tan Lines bus into New York City, according to Leonia Police Chief Jay E. Ziegler.

Former Crusader QB Charged with Speeding, Driving After Consuming in North Carolina 

University of South Carolina redshirt freshman quarterback Tanner McEvoy was arrested and charged with speeding and “driving after consuming” alcohol this weekend in North Carolina. The fourth-stringer was busted by cops in Mecklenberg County, N.C. just days before the Gamecocks begin their 2012 practice schedule. The Hillsdale resident has since been suspended  from all football-related activities pending the resolution of the charges against him.

Through hardwork, dedication and plenty of volunteer's efforts, the job search support and networking group Neighbors Helping Neighbors group has grown leaps and bounds over the past 18 months following its created by River Edge resident John Fugazzie. And now, the group's founder is one of 15 finalists in the Marigold Ideas For Good summer contest. Voting is open until Monday, August 6, 8pm and residents can vote once every 24 hours. With hurricane season creeping closer to River Edge, a lower than anticipated bid for a  to power  and the  will advance the project forward. Out of four bids that were received, Vanore Electric Inc of Teterboro came in with the lowest option at $188,509 which was below the expected $190,000 estimated cost for the larger generator.

Twice the borough of River Edge has sought bids for new ADA compliant doors for the police station and borough hall and both times has received zero responses. Now the town will seek clarification from the Community Development Block Grant program, which has supplied the funding, on whether the governing body could negotiate with a contractor.

Earlier this week, Gov. Chris Christie tapped Oradell native Julia Orlando as a direct appointment to the Interagency Council on Homelessness. She is one of 15 New Jersey residents who were appointed to the Council and the lone representative from Bergen County. Orlando is the current Director of the Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center.

O'Connell appointed to Sea Research board

Jamie O'Connell, a managing director of The Blackstone Group and resident of Oradell, has been appointed to Sea Research Foundation's Board of Trustees. Based in New York City, O'Connell specializes in advising corporations and public sector entities in financially distressed situations.
