Where Are the Worst Potholes in Scotch Plains-Fanwood?

Patch readers named a number of streets around Scotch Plains-Fanwood that are dotted with potholes. Do you agree?

Although the weather is warming up, winter is still reeking havoc on Scotch Plains-Fanwood in a way many would not expect: Potholes.

Potholes develop after water from snow and rain seeps into small cracks in the roadway surface, according to state highway officials. As temperatures drop, the water freezes and expands, making the cracks larger, eventually forming potholes. Heavy traffic, pavement age, vehicle weights, and snow and ice operations contribute to the problem.

After the seemingly never-ending winter, Patch asked readers to tell us where the worst potholes are in Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Here is a sample of some of the comments from Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch readers:

  • “The end of mountain avenue that goes out to rt 22 is absolutely the most dangerous. You can lose a small car. The last time the county filled in potholes they stopped right there.”
  • “Lake Avenue in Scotch Plains needs to be repaved. The entire stretch of road is like swiss cheese . I have to drive very slowly doing zig zags the whole way and it’s still impossible to not hit potholes .”
  • “Intersection of Evelyn St and Martine Ave. also, the entrance to CVS parking lot on Park Ave just south of East 2ns St.”
  • “Rhoda Place in Scotch Plains has growing potholes at Westfield Ave and close to Pearl place”
