1 Hospitalized, 8 Displaced In 2-Alarm North Jersey Fire: Officials

A two-alarm fire in Hudson County left eight residents displaced on Sunday, fire officials said.

BAYONNE, NJ - A two-alarm fire in Bayonne left eight city residents displaced on Sunday, fire officials said.

The fire, which took place around 4:30 p.m. at a three-story two-family home on Hobart Avenue, took nearly an hour and a half to control and multiple hand lines from firefighters, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said in a statement.

All residents inside the home at the time of the fire were able to self-evacuate, Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. One person was treated for smoke inhalation and transported by emergency personnel to a nearby hospital.

“The building is temporarily uninhabitable, leaving eight residents displaced,” Weaver said. “[The residents] are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross.”

A fire investigation is ongoing to determine the cause, Weave added, though he says the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious in nature.

“I want to commend the men and women of our department, who relied on their training to act rapidly and efficiently to stop the spread of this fire quickly and prevent the spread to nearby structures,” Weaver added.
