NJ City Police Captain, 61, Dies While On Duty: Officials
61-year-old Paul Jamolawicz died suddenly on Friday "while protecting the city he loved so much," according to his obituary.
BAYONNE, NJ - The captain of a New Jersey police department died in the line of duty last week, officials said.
61-year-old Paul Jamolawicz, captain of the Bayonne Police Department, died suddenly on Friday “while protecting the city he loved so much,” according to his obituary.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the death of Bayonne Police Department Captain Paul Jamolawicz,” Bayonne Chief Geisler said in a statement. “Captain Jamolawicz died unexpectedly tonight while on-duty serving our community. On behalf of the City of Bayonne and the Bayonne Police Department, I would like to express our condolences to the Jamolawicz Family."

Jamolawicz, a Bayonne native, was a graduate of Bayonne High School and New Jersey City University. He joined Bayonne police in 1985 and stayed on the force for 37 years, his obituary reads, rising through the ranks and earning himself three commendations and seven Excellent Police Service awards.
Jamolawicz was also a former owner of Manny’s Liquor Store and the current owner of First Street Wash & Dry.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m at the G. Keenen O'Brien Funeral Home. A mass will also be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Church with an entombment to follow at Gate Of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover.
