Driver Trapped After Car Crashes During Snowstorm In South Brunswick

Firefighters had to partially remove the roof to extricate the driver, authorities said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A driver was trapped inside a car after it crashed on Route 522 in South Brunswick on Sunday during the snowstorm, authorities said.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Monmouth Junction Fire Department (MJFD) was dispatched to the area of Rt. 522 and Bard Drive for a motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment.

When firefighters arrived they found a single car accident with a vehicle on its side and the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle with cribbing, chains, and ratchet straps, then used sawz-alls and hydraulic cutters to perform a partial roof removal to extricate the driver, MJFD said.

Firefighters from Rescue 205, Engine 206 and Chiefs 200 & 210 also responses to the rescue.

Route 522 near New Road was closed for several hours as firefighters, police and first responders were at the scene. There was no information on the condition of the driver.
