South Brunswick Man Charged In NYC Crash That Killed 3: Report

Daniel Hyden was a substance abuse counselor and had even published a book, reports said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man from South Brunswick has been charged in connection with a crash in Manhattan that killed three people and injured 7, according to media reports.

Daniel C. Hyden of Monmouth Junction was charged with recklessly causing serious injury with a weapon, aggravated vehicular homicide killing more than one person, driving while intoxicated, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, reported NBC News.

Hyden was a substance abuse counselor and published a book, "The Sober Addict: A Guide on How to Be Functional With the Dysfunctional Disease of Addiction," reported NBC New York.

On July 4, Hyden was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck and was speeding through the Water Street and Jackson Street intersection when it ran a stop sign and struck people, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference.

Emergency responders found the truck on top of four victims, police said. A 59-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Another victim was taken to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds and was pronounced dead.

Four other victims are facing life-threatening injuries, and an additional three are in serious condition, police said.
