Victim of Fatal Route 1 Crash Remembered

Family of crash victim Javier Antonio Torres seeking help for funeral expenses.

Following the tragic crash last week that took the life of a Pennsylvania man, family and friends are seeking help from the public to pay for his funeral expenses.

Javier Antonio Torres, 37, of Fairless Hills, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Aug. 2, which occurred at 4:19 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 north and Blackhorse Lane.

"To know Javier was to love him. We all recognized him as being very charming, charismatic and personable," read a message on a fundraising web site set up in Torres' honor. "He was a very loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.  He was always there when you needed him, whether it was for a good time, laughs or to support you in a time of need.  He was the definition of a family man. He comes from a very close-knit family whom everyone adored."

Torres worked for a building supply company in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was on his way home from work at the time of the crash. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said that Torres was stopped at a red light on Route 1 when a tractor-trailer, driven by Kevin Plante, 56, of Harrisville, R.I., failed to stop and crashed into the rear of Torres' vehicle.

The family of Torres is hoping to raise $2,000 for his funeral expenses. Click here to donate.
