A Facelift for Springfield's Police

The division gets a new logo and two new signs.

The Township's police cruisers and its police headquarters have a new look.

The police headquarters, which shares building space with Springfield's municipal offices, now has two signs outside the building announcing its location. The squad cars now have a new, streamlined decal and are outfitted with "pro-gard" bumpers that will let officers driving the cruisers be able to safely push disabled vehicles involved in accidents.

In addition, police officers are sporting new uniforms.

Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady said that the new look accompanies the police's new organization. When the township voted earlier this year to create a public safety office to oversee the fire, police and the office of emergency management, those offices changed their titles, with the police and fire departments becoming the police and fire divisions.

The uniforms, Shehady said, were paid for by the police officers out of their clothing stipend.
