2 Attempted Car Thefts In Summit On Monday: Police
Both attempted thefts Monday evening were unsuccessful, according to Summit Police.
SUMMIT, NJ — Two attempted car thefts occurred Monday in Summit, according to an alert from the police department Tuesday afternoon.
Both attempted thefts were unsuccessful, Summit Police said.
The first attempt occurred at 6:07 p.m. when three men were possibly attempting to steal a car on Rotary Drive. According to police, a resident was driving home when she noticed a white Mercedes sedan stopped and idling in the middle of the street with the suspicious men crouching behind a bush a short distance away from a neighbor's driveway.

The woman began to repeatedly honk the horn of her car to startle the suspects that fled the area in a waiting white Mercedes.
Then, at approximately 10:27 p.m., a Whittredge Road resident observed from a window a man running down her driveway toward the street where he entered a waiting white or silver sedan that drove off, police said.

It was later discovered that her unlocked Range Rover had been entered and rummaged through.
Fortunately, police said the key fob was not left inside the car, which most likely prevented a theft.
