2 Summit Cars Stolen, 7 Attempted Thefts In April: Police

SUMMIT, NJ — In the month of April, three cars were stolen and seven attempts were made in Summit, according to the most recent police blotter.

Summit saw a slight increase in car thefts and attempted thefts in April than it did in March, according to police records. However, a total of five car burglaries occurred in March, as valuable items were stolen from several Summit residents.

The first successful car theft of last month was on April 8 when a 2021 silver Acura TLX, valued at $45,000, was stolen from an Orchard Street residence overnight. The car was left unlocked with the key fob left inside, according to police.

Then a week later, on April 12, a car was stolen from the Summit Bagel parking lot on Morris Avenue. Police said the victim left their car running with the key fob inside while briefly entering the store. On return, their black 2015 BMW 5, valued at $25,000, was gone.

A total of seven attempted car thefts also occurred in April, as well as one burglary where two bottles of prescription drugs were stolen from a resident's car.

In all cases where thieves gained entry into residents' cars, the cars were unlocked.
