Readers' Choice for Coffee: Brownie Points

The Beachwood Road bakery nets 65 percent of the 1028 votes for top cup of joe in Summit.

Bob Conway, co-owner of the bakery shop  said he was surprised at the amount of votes his business received for its coffee. Known more for the signature "duffins", the tall skinny-ish muffins, the four-year-old establishment has quietly been serving coffee since it opened its doors in the Summer of 2008.

"I stop in Brownie Points every morning on my way to the train for a cup of coffee and a duffin. Love them both!" commented Patch reader Susan Zieleniewski.

Lately, Conway says the organic Indonesian brew that morning Midtown Direct commuters have been walking out with is locally roasted in Union City. By no means a coffee nerd, Conway says he took a trip to Red House Roasters for a coffee tasting recently and fell in love. The medium roast he serves was his top choice.

"I only drink coffee,"  Conway said about his daily drink of choice. No soda. No juice. "I was always looking for something that's not widely distributed, something more artisan," he said about the Flores Fair Trade Organic he pours into a paper cup.

While Brownie Points may not be your first thought when it comes to a coffee stop in Summit, it was selected 677 times in our Patch poll for Best cup of joe.  But you don't have to take our word for it, Conway knows what he's talking about. "I probably drink way too much coffee," he chuckles.
