Code Blue Extended In Union County Due To Low Temperatures
Temperatures are expected to drop to the low 20s in Union County this week, according to the National Weather Service.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — Union County has extended its Code Blue for two additional days — Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Wednesday, Dec. 28.
According to the National Weather Service, a low of 20 degrees is predicted in Union County Tuesday night, and a low of 24 degrees on Wednesday.
During extremely cold conditions the weather can pose a threat of severe harm or death, according to Bridges Outreach — a non-profit organization based in Summit.

When such conditions exist, the Department of Health and Wellness will call a Code Blue when the NWS predicts:
- Temperature of 25 degrees or below
- Temperature of 32 degrees or below
- The wind-chill is a temperature of 0 degrees or lower for two hours or more.
