SUMMIT, NJ — The talented stars of Summit middle and high school performing arts programs will be putting on a show with music, dancing and comedy with the "SPARC'ling Evening of Stars" fundraiser.

For the Summit Performing Arts Resource Committee's 25th anniversary, a variety show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 12, featuring musical solos, duets and a group number performed by current theater students.

Two comedy acting pieces will also be performed by award-winning Speech & Debate students. All of the proceeds for the event will go to Summit Performing Arts Resource Committee (SPARC).

SPARC is a non-profit organization that raises money for the performing arts in Summit's public schools, Communications Officer Julie Cahillane said.

"It is run by a community of parents, industry professionals and educators who know the value of an arts education but understand the limitations of a public school budget" Cahillane said. "SPARC's primary goal is to help bridge that gap in funding."

In addition, Cahillane said SPARC also promotes the shows and programs across the district, provides enrichment opportunities and awards scholarship money to graduating seniors.

Emceeing the event is American singer/songwriter and producer, and Summit’s very own, Danny Roselle.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a key-turn raffle with the chance to win one of three exciting prizes.

Here are the prizes being auctioned off:

  • 2 tickets to the Broadway musical, Six
  • 2 tickets to Paper Mill Playhouse's Sister Act opening in June
  • 4 tickets to the Thanksgiving Macy's Day Parade

A reverse auction will raise funds for specific needs in Summit's performing arts programs.

For those who purchase VIP tickets, they will receive preferred seating in the theater-style seating arrangement, a bracelet for an open bar and have their name mentioned in the program. All other ticket holders with general admission seating will have access to a cash bar.

The event will be held at Knights of Columbus at 59 Sunpike Road in Summit. Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:30pm.

Proof of COVID vaccination, or a negative COVID test result within 72 hours of the event, is required. Masks must be worn in the performance area at all times, but masks will be optional in the bar area.

While this is an in-person event, a livestream link will be made available to anyone who may need to watch from home, or for out-of-town family and friends.
