Summit High College Fair Tonight

Students and their parents from all communities can meet with admissions representatives from more than 175 institutions of higher learning at Summit High School's 28th annual College Night. The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Summit High School, 125 Kent Place Blvd. in Summit.

Invitations have been sent to high schools in Union, Morris, and Essex counties encouraging their students to attend, but students from any high school are welcome as well.

The Summit High School Guidance Department is sponsoring the event and is providing students with a booklet containing tips on making the most of the evening. The booklet contains suggestions on questions to ask the representatives; for example, What are your criteria for admissions? What co-curricular offerings are there? How is student social and dorm life arranged?

The booklet also includes a chart that students can fill in comparing colleges by topics such as expenses, SAT score requirements for admission, and required high school courses.

“College night is the perfect opportunity for students and their families to get first-hand information on many schools,” said Dr. John Schnedeker, supervisor of Summit's Guidance Department. “Admissions representatives from colleges and universities nationwide are prepared to answer questions and to distribute handouts about their schools.”

Along with representatives from colleges and universities, representatives from all branches of the armed services will also be in attendance.
