Letter to the Editor: Generosity and Performing Arts at Farmer's Market
Summit students learned about power of community, and the impact people have through giving.
To the Editor:
How grateful we are for the wonderfully supportive community we live in!
At the final on November 20, students from performing arts program performed songs to raise money for their upcoming summer trip to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. After each performance, they “passed the hat” (literally), asking for contributions as well as selling coffee and gift bags, to cover our production costs for staging a show in Scotland.
We were all truly amazed by the generous support of so many people! We always stress the learning that performing arts offers—communication skills, collaboration, and confidence—but on Sunday the students also learned about the power of community, and the impact people have through giving.

Summit High School is one of only 40 American schools chosen to perform at the Fringe (the largest performing festival in the world), through the American High School Theater Festival (AHSTF).
Our group will be performing the Tony-award-winning show Urinetown; Sunday’s singing showcased a few numbers, and we will be staging a full performance at the High School’s newly-refurbished auditorium June 2.

When we arrive in Edinburgh for the Festival Fringe in August, the students will not only perform our show, but will see many others and experience the creativity and excitement of this global event.
Thank you all so much for your gracious support of these students, and of our award-winning performing arts program! We hope to see you at one of our many theater events in the coming year.
Sincerely,
Anne Poyner, Theatre Arts Director and Wayne Mallette, Musical Director, Summit High School
