According to a Summit Police statement:
"Earlier this afternoon, a major water main break occurred on Passaic Ave near Harvey which caused water pressure issues throughout the city. The main has now been shut down and water pressure will begin to build.
At this time, there is no need to boil water according to the NJ American Water Company.
Passaic Ave will be closed from Kent Place Blvd to River Rd until further notice."
Some residents had reported no water in the area, while others continued to have water pressure and use of their faucets.
However, John Krammer from Colt Road said he had no water for the past three hours. "We're used to it," he said. "We didn't have electricity during the hurricane."
The water main at Passaic Avenue and Harvey Drive was shut off at 4:30p.m.
