84-Year-Old Summit Resident Hit By Car, Summit Ave. Closed: Police
Police say to avoid the area for the next few hours on Thursday.

SUMMIT, NJ — Update as of 12:11 p.m.: Police said an 84-year-old Summit resident and landscaper was hit by a car while working at a property between Morris Avenue and Walnut Street at approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Officers found the man unconscious with serious head injuries at the scene. He was rushed to Morristown Medical Center by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, police said.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, also a Summit resident, was proceeding south on Summit Avenue toward Morris Avenue when they hit the man who was crossing the street in front of Paul Ippolito Memorial.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police. The incident is under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
A section of Summit Avenue is closed Thursday morning due to a crash investigation, according to an alert from Summit Police.

Summit Avenue is currently closed between Morris Avenue and Broad Street, police said.
Residents are advised to avoid the area for the next few hours.
