Man Dead After Being Hit By Train In Union County

UPDATE: Normal service has resumed along the Morris and Essex line, according to NJ Transit.


SUMMIT, NJ — A man trespassing on the train tracks was struck and killed by a train at Summit Station on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

A Morris and Essex line railcar hit the man at around 8:13 a.m. The train left Dover at 7:33 a.m. and was scheduled to reach New York Penn Station at 8:55 a.m.

No other injuries to the 500 passengers or crew on board were reported, officials said.

Authorities ask that everyone avoid the area. Delays in the area are estimated.

The Morris and Essex rail line service is suspended in both directions.

Alternate Route Information

The Gladstone Branch line was briefly suspended but has resumed service.

Summit Police Officers and NJ Transit Police are both on scene. NJ Transit Police is leading the review of the crash.
