Possibly Armed, 'Disturbed' Adult Near Summit Meadowbrook Ct. (UPDATE)

Summit Police said to avoid the area Wednesday, as an 'emotionally disturbed,' possibly armed adult was barricaded in a home. See update:

SUMMIT, NJ — *The situation on Meadowbrook Court is now resolved. The victim is being sent to a hospital, and no injuries were reported, spokesperson Amy Cairns said.

Summit Police said to avoid the area near Meadowbrook Court and Division Avenue due to police activity Wednesday afternoon.

An "emotionally disturbed" adult, possibly armed, was barricaded in a Summit residence, according to police. Union County SWAT Team will be on site shortly, the alert at 1:25 p.m. said.

In an update at 2:30 p.m., spokesperson Amy Cairns said a crisis response negotiator was in communication with the person that is barricaded in the residence.

Union County SWAT team is in command. Cairns said neighbors sheltered in place.

"I do not have specific information on which residences have been evacuated but the street has been blocked off and there is a safety perimeter surrounding the residence now," Cairns told Patch.

In a statement, Summit Police Acting Chief Steve Zagorski said, “I am pleased with the professional response by our officers and thankful for the quick action from the Union County Emergency Response Team (UCERT), and the county crisis response negotiators who were able to resolve the situation without incident or injury. We ask that you respect the privacy of the family at this time.”
