Purse With IPhone Stolen During School Play

A parent volunteer's purse, containing a new iPhone was stolen during the production of The Owls of Oz last month. According to a police report, a purse and its contents, valued at over $900, was stolen from a school hallway during the play. 

principal Lauren Banker issued a plea via the school's website asking for the return of the purse. "Please check your children and homes to see if someone inadvertently picked up and took home a purse that didn’t belong to them," she wrote to school parents.

The $300 purse contained a $200 wallet, and iPhone 4s, cash, ID and credit cards, according to police. "This is a very unfortunate situation, as this parent now has to replace all that was in her purse, including keys, phone, wallet etc," wrote Banker.

Dear Parents,

I am writing this letter to ask for some help. Unfortunately, last Thursday night (3-29-12), during the production of The Owls of Oz, a purse was taken from the first grade hallway. This purse belonged to one of the group moms who was donating her time and energy to helping our children with the performance.

Obviously, this is a very unfortunate situation, as this parent now has to replace all that was in her purse, including keys, phone, wallet etc… 

I am writing to ask you to please check your children and homes to see if someone inadvertently picked up and took home a purse that didn’t belong to them. If you do find this item, it would be greatly appreciated if you could return it to Washington School and we will then return it to the parent who lost it.

Mistakes happen, and in this case, if we can correct the situation, I ask that we do. I do not want there to be a feeling that items could be taken from our school or from a parent who is at a school event. We are a community who takes care of one another, not one that takes from one another.

Theft

On April 1, two bags containing ID and $107 in cash were reported stolen after being left on a bench at the entrance to the West Garage of sometime between 3:45 p.m. and 3:46 p.m.

Contempt of Court

Raynice Mcknight, 37, of Newark was arrested on March 29 at Summit Avenue and Ridge Road on a charge contempt of court.

Malika Shanta Oliver, 34, of Newark was arrested at Broad Street on a charge of contempt of court on March 27.

Hindering Apprehension

Doremus T. Baker, 19, of Newark was arrested at Springfield Avenue and Maple Street for hindering apprehension or prosecution 3rd Degree on March 28.
