Smythe Volvo Dealership Renovation Underway

Hollister Construction Services is renovating the former Barnes Chevrolet building to include an open-air third-floor showroom.

Hollister Construction Services (Hollister), a leading full-service construction manager specializing in corporate, educational, healthcare, industrial, retail, and residential construction, has begun renovating the former Barnes Chevrolet building on River Road in Summit, to create the new home of Smythe Volvo.

Currently located at 326 Morris Avenue in Summit, the Volvo dealership will move its operations to the renovated building in April of 2014.

The project entails gutting the Barnes Chevrolet building down to its block wall shell and replacing the existing brick façade with a new two-story glass storefront. The original building was built like an urban car dealership, with roof-top parking that will now receive poly-tuff flooring and a canopy of solar panels to create an open-air third-floor showroom.

Removing a central stairwell will provide views from the second floor over a new glass railing to the newly tiled showroom below. A full 17-bay service area will be installed on the first floor, below the River Road street level. At 30,000 square feet, the new facility will be approximately three times the size of the dealership’s current building on Morris Avenue. The architects for the Smythe Volvo project are S&L Architecture Studio

“Hollister continues to be the go-to choice for businesses like Smythe Volvo that are in need of sophisticated value engineering for challenging projects,” said Christopher Johnson, founder and CEO of Hollister.
