Summit Community Garden Will be Assigning Plots for 2018!
This community garden offers both novice and experienced gardeners an opportunity to grow their own healthy vegetables!
The fenced in garden located on Beauvoir Place in Summit, NJ has 52 raised beds available for our community members to grow organic food. The garden sits on a parcel of land donated for use by Overlook Medical Center, and was partially funded by a grant to the Summit Area YMCA from the Centers for Disease Control's ACHIEVE program. ACHIEVE stands for Action Communities for Health, Innovation & Environmental Change. Additional support was provided by grants from the Overlook Foundation, the Summit Garden Club, and the Junior League of Summit.
The goal of the Summit ACHIEVE Community Garden is to grow organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs to promote healthy eating. The Garden has operating rules that all Gardeners and Co-gardeners must agree to follow in order to participate. If there are more applicants than there are plots available, the plots will be assigned by a lottery system. This year's lottery will be held on February 21, 2018. There is a limitation of one garden plot per household.
Plot rental fees are $75, pus a $50 refundable security deposit. The YMCA also offers financial assistance for lower income level gardeners to participate in the Community Garden. Gardeners meeting the Financial Aid income requirements are eligible for a reduced Summit ACHIEVE Community Garden plot fee (Please see the Reduced Fee Application below).
