Summit High School 'Footloose' Production Gets Rising Star Nominations

Paper Mill Playhouse released its nominations for the Rising Star competition, and Summit High School received several for its spring show.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit High School's spring production of "Footloose" received five Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star nominations, including Outstanding Overall Musical this year.

This is the 14th year that Summit has been one of the seven shows nominated for Best Musical in the Rising Star competition that includes 100 schools in New Jersey.

Paper Mill Playhouse, the theater in Millburn, announced its 2022 nominees for its statewide Rising Star Awards, which are given to those who participate in high school theater.

Summit is among seven productions nominated for Outstanding Overall Musical. The nominations are as follows:

  • Clearview Regional High School, Mullica Hill, The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Columbia High School in Maplewood, Newsies
  • Immaculate Heart Academy, Legaly Blonde
  • Ridge High School, Basking Ridge, Matilda
  • Scotch Plains Fanwood High School, Les Miserable
  • Summit High School, Footloose
  • West Milford Township High School, Anastasia

The Rising Star Awards Ceremony will be held at the Paper Mill Playhouse Tuesday, June 7. As one of the seven schools nominated for Outstanding Overall Musical, the cast of Footloose will perform a number on the stage during the ceremony.
