Intoxicated Summit Man Hit By Car Near Village Green
The 32-year-old resident suffered a minor leg injury after he was hit by a car on Summit Avenue Monday morning, according to police.

SUMMIT, NJ — A pedestrian was hit by a car on Summit Avenue between Broad Street and Industrial Place Monday morning, according to Summit Police.
After arriving at the scene, police received a report of an intoxicated man staggering on the Village Green. Upon investigation, police found a 32-year-old Summit resident who reported that he was hit by a vehicle and sustained a minor leg injury.
Spokesperson Amy Cairns confirmed with Patch that the 32-year-old who was hit by the car was intoxicated.

Police said the man was unable to provide officers with a clear description of the incident, or the vehicle make and model. He described the driver as an overweight man around 40 years of age, police said.
The man was taken to Overlook Medical Center by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad for evaluation, according to police.

Video surveillance footage obtained by Summit Police shows a partial view of the driver of the vehicle proceeding south on Summit Avenue toward Morris Avenue at a low rate of speed when he struck the victim who was crossing the street.
Police said it is unclear from the video if the victim was in a crosswalk or if the driver
violated any motor vehicle laws. The driver initially remained on the scene and got out of the car to speak to the victim and assist him in getting out of the roadway. When the victim continued walking to the Village Green, he drove away, according to police.
The incident is under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau. Police detectives are asking for help to identify the driver and vehicle. Anyone with information or recorded home video surveillance footage of the accident should contact detectives at 908-277-9400.
This is the second time a pedestrian has been hit by a car in the last few days in the City.
A 10-year-old Lincoln-Hubbard School student was hit by a car at the intersection of Deforest Avenue and Woodland Avenue on Friday morning. He also sustained a minor leg injury.

According to Mayor Nora Radest, the City and Police Department are working to improve several roadways to encourage drivers to slow down at key intersections.
