Summit Overlook Medical Center Gets 'A' Grade For Patient Safety
Overlook received high marks in The Leapfrog Group's Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grades that was released on Tuesday.

SUMMIT, NJ — Overlook Medical Center received the highest possible safety ranking of "A" by The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grades, which was released Tuesday.
The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit health care watchdog group, said its rankings reflect hospital care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group said its and other groups' research showed the pandemic reversed years of progress in patient safety.
Overlook is one of 30 hospitals in New Jersey to receive an "A" grade, whereas 16 got a "B," 19 earned a "C" and four received a "D."

“Safety is the foundation of extraordinary care and the heart of our trusted relationships
with patients and their families,” Brian Gragnolati, President and CEO of the Atlantic Health
System said. “Our thanks to Leapfrog for recognizing the tireless efforts of our talented
healthcare heroes, who put the safety and well-being of our patients first every day.”
The Leapfrog Group assigns these grades to general general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

Currently, The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients, according to Atlantic Health System. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
All of Atlantic Health’s ‘A’ graded facilities earned top marks for consecutive scoring periods, including Morristown Medical Center’s maintained ‘A’ Grade since Fall 2015, Chilton Medical Center’s consecutive ‘A’ since Fall 2018, Newton Medical Center’s ‘A’ since Spring 2019 and Overlook Medical Center’s ‘A’ since Spring 2021.
