Summit Police Accepting Youth Academy Applications Through April 1

SUMMIT, NJ - Do you have a young Summit police officer in your household? Here’s their chance to learn what it takes.
Modeled after the actual Police Academy curriculum, Summit’s Youth Academy involves instruction in physical, drill and ceremony training, criminal investigation techniques and evidence recovery and patrolling, the police department said.
Youth participants ages 11 to 14 are able to visit the Union County Police Academy and witness demonstrations from the Union County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, Union County S.W.A.T. Team and Bomb Squad.

Two, one-week sessions will be held from July 17 to July 21 and July 24 to July 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Applications for the 2023 Youth Academy will be accepted from March 1 through April 1. Applications are available online, at the Summit Police Department in City Hall and in the main office at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School.
