SUMMIT, NJ - A seven-year Summit police department veteran will be taking on a new assignment around Summit schools, officials said.

Officer Lenny Franchino was recognized on Summit police social media on Saturday in honor of his recent appointment to the Juvenile Detective position.

The juvenile detective unit is tasked with both establishing positive relationships with the city’s youth and overseeing all law enforcement investigations involving juveniles, according to the Summit police website.

Since he was hired in 2016, Franchino has served in the Summit Patrol Bureau as a bicycle patrol officer and field training officer, police said. He’s also an active member of the Summit PAL and an avid Miami Dolphins fan.

Franchino has also served as a police Dispatcher and summit auxiliary officer before graduating with the 115th Basic Police Training Class of the John H. Stamler Police Academy.
