Summit Resident In Final Stretch of Fundraising For Weight Loss Film

Kara Richardson Whitely wants to finance an hour long documentary about her Mount Kilimanjaro hikes, which she completed in an effort to help lose weight and inspire others.

I debuted the short clip below last week to an audience at REI East Hanover. Folks laughed, cheered and got weepy (all in the right places). I know I have a special project but I have a long way to go before it is completed. I'm not one to back down from a challenge. Still, I need your help.

I have [2 days] left on Kickstarter to make my goal. Here is the link to add your name to the Big Fat Mountain credits, get special screening tickets and even arrange a hike and healthy picnic or inspirational talk for your workplace or organization:

While many people have already been inspired by this short cut of Big Fat Mountain, there is much more work to be done. Sound track. Legal checks and paperwork. Marketing. And of course, adding in and editing the other fabulous footage so the project is suitable for an hour on televison.

But I keep going because of notes like this -- one of many I have received since launching my project on Kickstarter:

"I've gone from wanting to thru hike the AT to just plain being 'Thankful' to hike at all. Big time Outdoorsman, 10 year Marine Corps Veteran, 10 year Football Standout player, to a very unfortunate series of health issues in which I've gained about 60 lbs in short amount of time. The overweight issue has had a huge negative impact on my life...basically leaving me with no confidence, limited abilities... I was really thinking of giving/selling all my stuff and giving into this weight problem....until I came across your story. Someday, Kara, we WILL share a coffee, tea, bag of GORP, something.... Just so I can look you in the eye and say "Thank You" for sharing and getting your story out there where people who need to hear will hear it." - Jeff

Notes like that are the reason I feel so compelled to share my story with the world. The goal of the project is to encourage people to stay active and on a path to wellness.

Please help me inspire people around the world by backing Big Fat Mountain on Kickstarter and sharing it with those who would be inspired by it:
