Summit Speech Team Places Top 20 in National Tournament

The Summit High School Speech team enjoyed a very successful week at the National Speech and Debate National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky!

The NSDA National Tournament is the largest academic tournament in the world with over 5,000 students from 1,000 schools in 51 states competing in 13 different speech and debate events. 12 SHS Speech team members qualified for the National tournament by advancing to the top three in their events at the New Jersey District Tournament.The team won a School of Excellence of Award for placing in the top 20 schools out of 1000 schools entered in the tournament! Six SHS students advanced to elimination rounds at the National tournament:-Matt Hecker won Third Place in Informative Speaking out of 250 entered in the event.-Ella Szabados advanced to the quarter final round of Dramatic Interpretation, placing her in the top 30 out of 240-Sarah Walsh advanced to the octo final round of Humorous Interpretation, placing her in the top 60 out of 240 -Four students advanced to Double Octo Finals in their supplemental events: Sarah Walsh, Charlie Zucker, and Ben Schacne in Storytelling, Molly Duff in Impromptu Speaking
