Train Derailment Causing Delays, Shifted Schedules In Union County

SUMMIT, NJ — NJ Transit is operating two lines on a modified schedule on Monday due to a non-passenger train derailment at Summit Station on Friday.

A slow-speed work train derailed near Summit station Friday evening. NJ Transit said no passengers were on board, and no injuries were reported.

Service across multiple lines was suspended for a period over the weekend as crews continued work to repair the track. Rides between Summit and New York City resumed at around 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Morristown Line and Montclair-Boonton Line are both affected due to ongoing repairs of the track.

Officials are advising travelers to expect additional travel time on all trains in the area, as a single track is being used between Millburn and Summit.

The following schedules were adjusted:

Morristown Line Eastward (To Hoboken Terminal/Penn Station New York):

  • Train 608, the 5:44 a.m. departure from Dover to Hoboken will not operate. Customers can use Train 404, which will make additional stops.
  • Train 308, the 6:56 a.m. departure from Summit to Hoboken will not operate. Customers can use Trains 408 and 852, which will make additional stops.
  • Train 6314, the 7:13 a.m. departure from Summit to New York will not operate. Customers can use Trains 6614 and 6410, which will make additional stops.
  • Train 412, the 6:50 a.m. departure from Gladstone to Hoboken will not operate.
  • Train 6318, the 8 a.m.departure from Maplewood will not operate.
  • Train 6616 will make an additional stop at Maplewood, and Train 6620 will make an additional stop at Brick Church.
  • Train 626, the 8:32 a.m. departure from Dover will not operate.
  • Train 430, the 3:55 p.m. departure from Gladstone, will operate express from Summit to Newark. Passengers may transfer at Summit for local stops.
  • Train 6658, the 4:03 p.m. departure from Dover will not operate.
  • Train 336, the 7:31 p.m. departure from Summit to Hoboken will not operate.
  • Train 434, the 8:16 p.m. departure from Peapack to Hoboken will not operate.
  • The following Morristown Line trains will operate via MSU between Denville and Newark Broad Street Station. Passengers traveling from points west of Dover to Morristown Line destinations should change trains at Dover:
    • Train 854, the 11:58 a.m. departure from Hackettstown
    • Train 660, the 4:19 p.m. departure from Dover
    • Train 880, the 4:51 p.m. departure from Hackettstown
    • Train 858, the 5:56 p.m. departure from Mt. Olive
    • Train 882, the 7:06 p.m. departure from Hackettstown
    • Train 884, the 8:32 p.m. departure from Hackettstown
  • Train 6360 is added, departing Summit at 5:13 p.m. , to New York. This train will make all stops from Maplewood to Newark.
  • Train 6362 is added, departing Summit at 5:46 p.m. to New York. This train will make all stops from Maplewood to Newark.

Morristown Line Westward (To Dover Station):

  • Train 609, the 6:34 a.m. departure from Hoboken to Dover will not operate.
  • Train 6307, the 6:42 a.m. departure from New York to Summit will not operate.
  • Train 6607, the 7:07 a.m. departure from New York to Dover will not stop at Millburn or Short Hills stations.
  • Train 409, the 7:54 a.m. departure from Hoboken to Gladstone will not operate. Train 309 will operate on Train 409’s schedule between Hoboken and Summit.
  • Train 6613, the 8:02 a.m. departure from New York to Dover, will terminate at Maplewood.
  • Train 6339, the 3:22 p.m. departure from New York to Summit will not operate. Customers can use Train 6639, which will make additional stops.
  • Train 485, the 3:37 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Bernardsville will not operate.
  • Train 643, the 4:35 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Dover will not operate.
  • Train 645, the 5:02 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Dover will not operate. Customers can use Train 807, which will make additional stops.
  • Train 429, the 5:06 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Gladstone will depart at 5:02 PM and make an additional stop at South Orange.
  • Train 6653, the 5:52 p.m. departure from New York to Dover will not operate. Customers can use Train 6437, which will make additional stops at South Orange and Summit.
  • Train 435, the 6:03 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Gladstone will not operate. Customers can use Train 881, which will make an additional stop at Short Hills.
  • Train 339, the 6:07 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Summit will not operate.
  • Train 6355, the 6:19 p.m. departure from New York to Summit will not operate. Customers can use Train 6655, which will make additional stops at Brick Church, Orange, Mountain Station, and South Orange.
  • Gladstone Branch customers using Train 6683, the 12:02 a.m. departure from New York, must transfer to Train 453 at Newark Broad Street.
  • Morristown Line customers using Train 453, the 11:56 p.m. departure from Hoboken, must transfer to Train 6683 at Newark Broad Street."
