Thieves Break Into Car In Summit, Police Warn Of Heightened Theft Around Holidays
The masked men were seen walking the driveways of homes in the area.
SUMMIT, NJ — A garage door opener was reported stolen after multiple masked men were seen driving the streets and breaking into at least one car in Summit on Sunday.
At around 4:45 p.m., Summit Police said they responded to a home on Rotary Drive for a suspicious situation. The resident said he was inside his house and watched an unknown man walk around on his driveway.
The man then got in the back seat of a white sedan and drove away.

Shortly before 7:15 p.m., another report came in for a burglary along Rotary Drive. The man told officers that he got into his 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS at around 6:45 p.m. and noticed that his garage door opener was gone.
Video surveillance in the neighborhood showed two unknown suspects wearing all black with their faces covered got into the unlocked Mercedes at around 4:30 p.m. and opened the garage door.

They did not go into the garage and left with the garage door opener, according to Summit Police, in a four-door white Infiniti G35 with New Jersey plates. They then drove away from the area.

Summit Police said there has been a rise in burglaries, attempted burglaries, and stolen cars over the last few weeks in the city. Multiple areas throughout the region have also had homes broken into.
Officials are reminding residents to lock all doors, set alarms, turn on motion lights, and report suspicious activity.
