Threat Leads To Shelter-In-Place At Union County Schools: Police
Two schools were under the order.
SUMMIT, NJ — A shelter-in-place was enacted at Brayton Elementary School and Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School on Thursday while authorities responded to a threat in the area, Summit Police said.
The orders have since been lifted, and the school day has continued.
At around 1 p.m., police were told by an outside law enforcement agency that there was a threat placed by a caller believed to be within the city.

According to authorities, the target of the threat was an educational institution outside of Summit.
As a precaution, the shelter-in-place orders for the schools were utilized, police said.

A suspect was ultimately identified and taken into custody.
"Due to the close working relationship between the Summit Police Department and the Summit Board of Education, we were able to quickly identify and take the suspect into custody," added Police Chief Ryan Peters.
