Downed Wires Reported In Summit; Union County Under Flood Watch

Downed power lines were reported in Summit and elsewhere Monday, suspending trains. The flood watch continues Monday for all of Union County

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service continued a flood watch for all of Union County through Monday and said that while Tropical Storm Henri had passed, it was still producing wet weather around the Northeast and causing problems locally.

In Summit, "Glenside Avenue is closed between Rt. 78 and Stiles Road," the city reported Monday morning. "Tree and electrical wires down across roadway in the area of Fountain Baptist Church. Please avoid the area. Assume all downed wires are live and dangerous. Report power outages to @JCP_L at 888-544-4877. #summitnj"

The Morris & Essex Rail line was temporarily suspended on Monday.

While some may consider flash floods just an inconvenience, these floods have proved fatal to drivers (sometimes trapping parents and children) and people near even small streams.

Severe storms are becoming more frequent. In fact, Hurricane Elsa in July 2021 was the earliest E-named storm in modern weather history.
