TEANECK, NJ — A suspect was identified in an armed robbery that occurred in early September near a Stop & Shop supermarket in Teaneck, Deputy Chief of Police Andrew McGurr said.
Mark Martin, 25, of Mount Vernon, New York, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun without a permit in the second degree, possession of a large capacity magazine in the third degree, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the fourth degree. He was arrested Saturday and then remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending an initial court appearance, McGurr said.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sept. 3, in which two men armed with handguns ordered two victims to the ground and proceeded to steal personal items from them. One of the men struck one of the victims in the head with a gun, police said.

The victims reported to police that they were walking from the store parking lot to a nearby establishment when they were approached by the armed men. The injured victim was treated on scene and did not require further medical attention, police said.
Officers obtained information from the victims and witnesses about the suspects and the vehicle they were driving, police said.

Detectives later identified Martin as a suspect; he was seen last week driving in Edgewater when police pulled over his vehicle and seized it and the property in his possession. The vehicle, which was registered to someone else, was searched pursuant to a warrant, and the items revealed led to the charges against Martin, police said.
Detectives are still investigating the robbery, police said.
