Community Forum 'Survival in 2015 - Race and Police - Community Relations' to be Held Feb. 23 at Bergen Community College

Law enforcement and community representatives will address the impact of current social issues on civil rights and personal safety.

The Bergen County Council of Churches and Bergen Community College’s The Center for Peace, Justice and Reconciliation announces a Community Forum scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Recent grand jury decisions in Ferguson, Missouri and Staten Island, New York that determined not to indict police officers in the deaths of two men have ignited controversy throughout the nation. The topic of police and race relations is seen daily in the media.

The public forum, titled “Survival in 2015 – Race and Police – Community Relations” offers a panel of representatives from law enforcement and the community to address the impact of current social issues on civil rights and personal safety. Participants include Anthony Cureton, president of NAACP of Bergen County; Captain Tim Condon of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office; and community representative Charles Harrison-Bey.

Rev. Peggy Niederer, president of the Bergen County Council of Churches, invites interested community members to come and participate in this “open mic” dialogue opportunity.

The forum is free and open to the public and will be held in the Technology Education Center, Room 128 at Bergen Community College, located at 400 Paramus Rd in Paramus on Monday, Feb. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
