Leonia Police Investigating Smash And Grab Burglaries
Police say they are investigating links to similar break-ins in the area.

Five smash and grab commercial burglaries occurred in Leonia early Sunday morning, authorities said.
According to Lt. Thomas Rowe of the Leonia Police Department, "The subject gained entry into all five stores by breaking the glass on the front door."
The businesses did not have activated alarms, authorities said.

As the investigation continues, police hope to get video footage from the various banks on Broad Avenue, he said.
"The Leonia Police are investigating all these incidents in cooperation with County and other local police agencies as similar crimes were in other jurisdictions," Leonia authorities said in a statement.

, and Bergenfield have also seen commercial smash and grab burglaries since late December. Leonia police said the crimes were similar, but it was too soon to draw any solid connection.
There were also three residential burglaries in Leonia that occurred Friday evening just after sunset, authorities said. In two of the homes, entry was gained by smashing a window; in the other a door was forced open. Rowe said that all the homes were completely dark.
Authorities urged anyone who notices anything suspicious to call local police.
