Longtime Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin will not seek re-election in May, according to a report.
TEANECK, NJ – Longtime Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin will not seek re-election in May, according to a report.
After being elected to township council in 2008, he became Bergen County’s first Muslim-American mayor in 2010. He then served as mayor from 2010 to 2014.
Following Teaneck Mayor Lizette Parker’s death in April 2016, Hameeduddin was named as the town’s new mayor and has held the position since.

On Tuesday, Hameeduddin said he is grateful for the opportunity to have served the township and will “continue to advocate for Teaneck,” but “will be doing so as a private citizen for now,” InsiderNJ.com reported.

Teaneck's next non-partisan municipal election is set for May 12, when three candidates will be elected to four-year terms.
