Man With Knife Posed As Federal Agent Near Bergen County School: Police

A man claiming to be a federal agent was arrested after he was spotted near a Bergen County school, police said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man claiming to be a federal agent was arrested on Friday after he was spotted near a school in Englewood, police said.

Police in the Bergen County town said in a statement that they received a report from the school district's security team about the man "near one of our schools who claimed to be a federal agent."

Police from Englewood and Tenafly were able to locate the man and take him into custody. They found a knife "in his property," they said.

Police said he will face several criminal charges, but didn't elaborate or identify the man.

"This individual did not gain access to the school," police said, "and based on he information available at the time,it was deemed unnecessary to employ any shelter in place procedures."
