Concert at Mexicali Live will raise money for charity

New York Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin will perform in a Stevie Wonder tribute fundraising concert with students from School of Rock at Mexicali Live in Teaneck Saturday.

All proceeds will benefit the Jack Brewer Foundation, which supports educational opportunities and economic development for underprivileged people around the world, according to a news release.

Austin has been playing drums with the School of Rock’s Stevie Wonder Performance Program, and rehearsing for the concert for hours each week since February, the release said.

“The kids in this show are all phenomenally talented, and I’ve been having a blast jamming with them,” said Austin, who was an All-ACC player at the University of North Carolina and was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. “The whole experience has been a great situation, and I’m looking forward to rocking the stage with them at the concert.”

The concert will also feature 25 School of Rock students, ranging in age from 7 to 17, who are part of the Stevie Wonder Performance Program.  The show will include performances by the students of some of the biggest hits from Wonder’s career, including “Superstition,” “I Wish,” “Sir Duke,” and more.
