Reminder: Officials to Hold ‘Senior Safety’ Program in Teaneck

Event to include presentations on avoiding scams, emergency preparedness

Teaneck and Bergen County public safety officials will hold a free safety seminar for senior citizens June 17, council members Elie Y. Katz and Yitz Stern announced in a press release Tuesday.

Presentations will include “protecting against identity theft," "senior safety," "avoiding telemarketing and mail scams," "emergency preparedness," and the Teaneck Fire Department's Good Morning Checkup Program, according to the press release.

Teaneck Fire Chief Anthony Verley, Police Chief Robert Wilson, county representatives and other public safety officials will be on hand to share information and answer questions.

“Many people do not realize how easily criminals can obtain our personal data without having to break into our homes,” Stern said in the release. “Identity theft can happen to anyone but with a little thought and planning, we can protect ourselves from many threats.”

Katz said identity theft and similar frauds are becoming more common.

“We need to be on the lookout for this type of problem, especially as it relates to our senior population,” he said in the release.

The event will be held June 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Five Star Premier Residences of Teaneck, at 655 Pomander Walk in Teaneck.  The councilmen encouraged Teaneck residents ages 55 and up to attend.
