Teaneck Fugitive Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge Captured in New York
Township man accused in "brutal" Englewood stabbing, police say.

A 26-year-old Teaneck man wanted for brutally stabbing another man two weeks ago at an Englewood Chinese restaurant was captured early Friday in New York City, police said.
Marque Edwards was taken into custody around 8 a.m. at a small first floor apartment on East 169th Street in the Bronx by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force along with investigators from Englewood, the county prosecutor’s office and sheriff’s department, Englewood Detective Capt. Tim Torell said Friday night.
Edwards didn’t resist and was arrested without incident, police said. He was being held by New York City authorities without bail as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition to New Jersey to face an attempted murder charge in the June 7 attack on 36-year-old Sule Ouhuru.

Edwards was “clearly tired of running” and offered up information linked to the attack, Torell said in an e-mail, adding Teaneck police detectives provided “invaluable assistance” in the investigation.
Englewood police have said Edwards repeatedly stabbed Ouhuru in front of horrified employees at the New Jade Lee Kitchen on West Palisade Avenue. First responders found Ouhuru gravely wounded and rushed him into surgery. Ouhuru was initially listed in critical condition, but recovering from the attack.

“His wounds were some of the worst I’ve seen on a surviving victim,” Torell said after the attack.
At the time of the stabbing, Ouhuru was out on bail on charges he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend against her will, stole her car and fired a stolen gun at her, narrowly missing their daughter’s crib, records show. Edwards had apparently started dating the woman and allegedly targeted Ouhuru over the incident.
City police said the vicious stabbing unfolded after Ouhuru went to pick up food with another woman who waited in a car outside. When Ouhuru went inside, Edwards first forced his way into the car, but left the woman unharmed and ran to the eatery, Torell said. Edwards was captured on security cameras fleeing in a gateway car after the stabbing.
