Centuries-Old Teaneck Tree Coming Down Next Week

Crews will remove Teaneck’s centuries-old red oak tree at Cedar Lane and Palisade Avenue Monday morning, a Bergen County official said Friday.

A group seeking to repeal Bergen County's Blue Laws has collected about 1,200 signatures of the needed 2,500 to get a referendum on the ballot in November.

Westwood resident Rosemary Shashoua, who founded the group, said their petition was aided by a particularly strong response at Teaneck's Memorial Day festival, where they collected about 400 signatures.

Three incumbents and one former Board of Education member will compete for three seats on the Teaneck school board in November, according to the Bergen County Clerk’s Office.

Board Trustees Sebastian Rodriguez, Margot Embree Fisher and Shelley Worrell are running, the clerk’s office reported. Ex-board member , is also seeking a board seat.

Authorities have charged two Teaneck men suspected in a string of daytime burglaries at homes in Bergen County and Connecticut, the county prosecutor’s office said Monday.

The trial of a 65-year-old Teaneck rabbi accused of molesting two teenage boys has been delayed indefinitely after the rabbi suffered a stroke last week, NorthJersey.com reported Monday.

Uzi Rivlin was in a medically induced coma at Holy Name Medical Center, defense attorney Howard Simmons said, according to the report. Rivlin was admitted to the hospital Wednesday and was unresponsive.
