Gun Found In Teaneck Dorm Amid Domestic Violence Investigation: Cops

Fairleigh Dickinson University student Kawan Joseph turned himself in after cops found a hand gun and ammunition in his dorm, police said.

TEANECK, NJ — Police found a gun and ammo in the dorm of a Fairleigh Dickinson University student arrested on domestic violence charges, authorities announced this week.

Kawan Joseph was arrested Wednesday after police — looking for the student accused of twice attacking a woman — searched his dorm and found a 40-caliber handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition, officials said.

Joseph, who was not in the dorm Tuesday when police found the gun, turned himself into police the next morning, officials said.

Then, in January, Joseph pinned the woman against a door, "causing pain to her arms and legs," police said.

The woman also saw Joseph get a handgun, load it, then put it in his waistband, she told police.

When Joseph threatened the woman Monday, she decided to report him to police, officials said.

The Teaneck university student now faces changes of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, simple assault and several weapons offenses, officials said.

Joseph also received a temporary restraining order from the woman who reported him, Chief Andrew McGurr said.

The university student was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending an initial court appearance, police added.

Joseph's LinkedIn profile shows he majors in hotel, restaurant and tourism management at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
