Budget Hearing For Wall Township Schools, $82M Budget Announced

Budget highlights include building maintenance projects and capital improvements.

WALL, NJ — The Wall Township Board of Education held a budget hearing during a meeting on April 26, where they discussed the proposed $82.20 million budget for the 2022-23 school year.

The budget presentation was divided into five sections, each emphasizing new initiatives and improvements. The highlights of each section are listed below.

Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Rewriting of curriculum and new textbooks or new materials
    • Social studies: K-12
    • Visual and performing arts: K-12
    • Computer science and design thinking: K-12
    • World languages: K-12
  • Program Evaluations

  • Student Devices: Replacement of End of Life Devices

Personnel

  • 6.50 positions added
  • 28.70 positions eliminated
  • Anticipated benefits increase: 4.9%
  • No elimination of programs

Capital Improvements & Building Maintenance Projects

  • Asphalt paving of student parking lot on west side of Wall High School
  • Asphalt paving of parking lot at Allenwood Elementary
  • Purchased services & supplies for required maintenance of district facilities
  • Replacement of floor tile and carpet flooring at various schools

The budget is an increase of $3.16 million from the previous school year and calls for a 2-percent tax hike for all Wall Township taxpayers. This means that residents with a home estimated at the average home assessment value of $486,800 will pay $18 more than last year from $5,686 to $5,704.

Residents with a $100,000 home will only see an $3.70 increase from $1,168 to $1,172. Homeowners with a $200,000 will see a $7.40 increase from $2,336 to $2,343 and owners of a $500,000 home will see their tax payment go up from $5,840 to $5,859, an $18.50 increase.
