DWI Checkpoint, Roving Patrols Planned In Monmouth County

The DWI enforcement aims to reduce crashes and fatalities caused by impaired drivers on a weekend with "historically high" numbers of both.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — If your weekend plans involve using either alcohol or marijuana, law enforcement in Monmouth County has a message: Don't drive impaired.

The Monmouth County DWI Task Force will be conducting a checkpoint and will have roving patrols out focused on getting impaired drivers off the roads, according to Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, the coordinator of the county's DWI Task Force.

The checkpoint is set for Friday, July 5, in Wall Township from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. on Saturday. All westbound vehicles on Route 138 will be diverted onto Maxwell Road, where all drivers will be screened for their sobriety. Local officers from the Wall Township Police Department will be working alongside task force members during this checkpoint.

The DWI Task Force also will be organizing multiple local police departments to conduct roving patrols on Saturday night, July 6, to try to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities caused by impaired drivers, especially during this holiday weekend, where historically, the numbers of DWI arrests increase.

"The Monmouth County DWI Task Force strongly encourages everyone to have a safe holiday weekend, by choosing a designated driver, if you are out celebrating this weekend," Schneider said.
