Neptune Man Charged with Stealing Car in Wall

Neptune police also charge him with drug offenses

 

A Neptune man was charged by Neptune Township police with stealing a car in Wall and drug offenses, Wall police said on Thursday.

David Shirey, 35, was arrested at 9:49 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Wall police officers had responded to Tennis Court in the Allaire Country Club Estates in Wall after a resident there reported that his 2013 Volkswagen Passat had been stolen, said Wall police.

Investigating officers learned that the vehicle was stolen after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and was later recovered by the Asbury Park Police at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Wall police.

An investigation by Wall police, with assistance from Neptune Township, Neptune City and Asbury Park Police, led to Shirey's arrest.

Shirey was arrested Wednesday following a motor vehicle stop conducted by Neptune Township officers on an unrelated matter. In addition to being charged with motor vehicle theft, Neptune Township charged Shirey with narcotic-related offenses.

Shirey was remanded to the Monmouth County Jail on $45,000 total bail ($15,000 for Wall charges and $30,000 for Neptune charges). Patrolman Michael Hurden and Detective Chris Lisewski were the arresting officers.
