NJ Transit Train Catches Fire In Monmouth County

The fire broke out in the engine compartment of a North Jersey Coast Line train at Spring Lake Station, NJ Transit told Patch.

SPRING LAKE, NJ — The North Jersey Coast Line faced residual delays on Wednesday after a fire broke out in one of the train's engine compartments, NJ Transit Spokesman John Chartier told Patch.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Chartier said North Jersey Coast Line train 3363 experienced a small fire in the engine compartment at Spring Lake Station.

The train had departed NY Penn Station around 5 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Bay Head at 7:07 p.m.

No injuries were reported to the 55 passengers and crew onboard, and passengers sought their own alternate means of transportation, Chartier said.

North Jersey Coast Line trains remained in service following the fire with residual delays, which have cleared up as of Thursday morning.
