Victim In Wall Machete Attack Dies; Boyfriend Faces Murder Charge
The man charged in the attack is being held in jail pending a detention hearing, prosecutors said.
WALL, NJ — A woman who was attacked with a machete in an apartment complex parking lot in Wall Township has died, and the man arrested in the attack is now charged with murder, authorities said.
The charge against Alex J. Williams, 24, was upgraded from attempted murder after the woman died May 30, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Sunday.
He is accused of attacking his girlfriend with a machete in the parking lot of the Glen Oaks complex off Route 138, authorities have said. Her child was nearby at the time, they said.

Wall police were called there about 9:20 a.m. on May 23 and found the woman suffering from significant injuries. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, May 30, authorities said.
Williams, who was arrested without incident, also is charged with one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in reference to the machete, the prosecutor's office said.

They have not released information on the child's age or how close the child was to the attack when it happened.
He is being held in the Monmouth County jail pending a detention hearing that is tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 7 at 9 a.m. before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. English, the prosecutor's office said.
