Wall Votes To Create Open Space Trust Fund: Unofficial Results

The referendum passed with nearly double the amount of "yes" votes compared to "no," according to unofficial results.

WALL, NJ — Wall residents have voted to create the town’s first Open Space Trust Fund, according to unofficial election results from the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.

The fund was presented to residents as a referendum question on the Nov. 5 ballot.

By passing the referendum, the Township Committee will be authorized to create the fund through a municipal property tax of $0.015 per $100.

According to officials, the fund will be used for the “acquisition, development, maintenance, and preservation of lands for recreational and conservational purposes.”

With all 23 districts reporting, the referendum received 8,611 “yes” votes compared to 4,984 “no” votes, according to unofficial election results.

All election results remain unofficial until certified by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.

In addition to Wall Township, residents in Middletown and Atlantic Highlands also faced questions about open space on their ballots.

In Middletown, a referendum to increase the levy for the existing open space trust fund passed with 21,618 "yes" votes. In Atlantic Highlands, a similar referendum to acquire and increase the annual levy for open space passed with 1,607 "yes" votes.
