Children's Anxiety on the Rise, Workshop in Somerset County on Oct. 9

According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, one in eight children experience anxiety. Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine invites parents, guardians and professionals who work with children and families to an Office of Youth Services Community Connections workshop titled, “Anxiety in Children: Why is it on the rise and what can we do to minimize the daily pressure children experience?”

The workshop will take place on Friday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Somerset County Human Services Building, located at 27 Warren Street. During the day, parking is available in the adjacent parking deck, third level or higher. Morning registration will start at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be available.

The keynote speaker will be Jennifer Torres LCSW, a Jewish Family Services therapist and early-childhood school consultant. Torres will review several factors that are impacting children’s daily lives and introduce mindfulness techniques that can be used to support these children.

This workshop is being offered by the Somerset County Office of Youth Services, Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, and the Friends of Somerset County Youth. All proceeds from the workshop will benefit Friends of Somerset County Youth, which is a non-profit organization established to help address unmet needs of youth by providing resources to existing and emerging youth service organizations.
